90% Done

We’re almost there! We have a functional kitchen so that has made life a lot easier. Since the last post, most of the floors were finished (we ran out of material) and the crown mold was installed. We are waiting on trim which we had to order and we still need to find a back splash tile.

Daylight Pictures

I took these pictures during the day for different/better lighting. There are small changes like the exhaust hood, handles, toe kick, light rail and filler pieces.

Granite and Electric

Once all the cabinets were installed, the granite guys came in and measured for the tops. Within a couple of days we had the tops and the next day the electricians came and finished there work. Now we are getting close to a fully functioning kitchen.

Upper Cabinets and Countertops

The upper cabinets and the countertops were installed. We were able to start moving some of our things back into the kitchen. The electrician will be here this weekend so we should have a fully working kitchen by Halloween!

Starting to Take Shape

With the lower cabinets getting installed, the kitchen is starting to look like something now.

Cabinet Christmas

All the cabinets were in boxes that were stacked up in our living room. So now that it was time to unpack them, it was a little bit like opening gifts on Christmas morning.

Flooring

With the drywall done, I started priming and painting. Meanwhile, the guys finished the floor in the kitchen area. We were out of town and by the time we came back they had it all covered so we don’t know what it looks like except for this cell phone picture.

Drywall – Taping and Mudding

The drywall is coming along slowly but surely. In a couple of days we should be ready to prime and paint and start installing the flooring and cabinets.

Drywall

With the rough in and insulation done, it was time for the drywall to get hung. Our house feels like dust is flying everywhere despite the temporary walls. I’ve already gone through two furnace filters since this project began with all the dust. But the kitchen is starting to look like something now.

Spray Foam Insulation

All the rough in was finished and it was time for insulation. I choose to go with spray foam rather than fiberglass because it not only acts as an insulator but seals air gaps, provides a thermal break and stops moisture penetration.

The Wall Comes Down

Now we are seeing some real progress! The wall has been removed and the electricians are wiring up the kitchen.

More Baby Steps

The electricians removed the wires and outlets from the wall that needs to be removed.

Baby Steps

Not much progress is being made on the kitchen. You would think that the economy was booming with the number of HVAC guys, electricians, flooring people and insulation people that never got back to me?!? One or two people I can understand but this is crazy.

We got the vents moved in the wall that is coming out and the electrician started today.

The ‘Before’ Pictures

Here is what the kitchen looked the day before construction started. The kitchen looks a bit bare since we had cleared most of it out.
